******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************
Meditation music is a type of music that is carried out to help in the process of meditation. It sometimes involves certain religious content; in present times, meditation music is attributed to composers who use and infuse meditation techniques in their works. As part of contemplative practice, meditation music has been used for thousands of years.
In the 20th century, modern meditation music came to fruition during the time when composers blended music with meditation concepts and techniques. Modern meditation music were attributed to modern composers include Pauline Oliveros, John Cage, Stuart Dempster, Lawrence Ball, Terry Riley, and La Monte Young, as well as specific works like Karlheinz Stockhausen's Mantra (1970), Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time (1941), Hymnen (1966–67), Tony Scott's Music for Zen Meditation (1964), Stimmung (1968), Aus den sieben Tagen (1968), and Ben Johnston’s Visions and Spells. Meanwhile, R. Murray Schafer's works in The Tuning of the World (1977) are also believed to be meditative.
